The Problem
The project aimed to merge two distinct online marketplaces into a single, cohesive platform. One platform was being retired as it relied on old technology, while the other platform drove around 90% of the revenue for Idox Geospatial. Each marketplace had its own user base, interface patterns, and product structures, which presented a key challenge: how to ensure users from both systems could confidently and intuitively find the products they needed without friction.

My approach
To guide the design, I focused on primary user groups—architects and engineers. I developed interactive prototypes using Figma and ran them through Lyssna to conduct usability testing where participants were tasked with finding a popular product. In doing so measurements such as time-on-task, mis-click rate, and first-click success were then captured to evaluate product discoverability and navigation efficiency.

Impact
The next iteration of Mapshop enabled users to reliably locate specific reports while servicig current users of the mapshop trying to find Data Downloads. Clear links associated with product search and an easily navigable product slider showed beneficial in testing with data suggesting that although time on task increased, better quality task completion was obtained as 100% of users successfully completed the task fo pretending to purchase a report. A stark contrast to the 60% that completed the task under the current site conditions.
