My 4 Part Design Process

Every project starts with a problem that needs solving. I talk to stakeholders and understand users to identify issues. These are aligned against business strategy and user goals using a 4-part process.

Define

During this first part of the UX design process, the project requirements are defined, and the scope of the project is established. This involves gathering user research and talking to business stakeholders with the aim of identifying the goals and needs of the user. In this stage, I define the problem we are collectively trying to solve, and create a plan to resolve issues.

Design

In this stage, the I create wireframes and mockups to visualise the layout and content of the project. This stage involves creating user flows and designing the user interface. The goal of this stage is to create a high-level design that can be refined later in the process.

Tools: Figma, Sketch, LottieFiles, Noun Project, FigJam

Prototype

This is the stage where I create a working prototype of the design. This involves creating clickable interactive designs that users can test and provide feedback on. The goal of this stage is to prepare to test the designs and make sure they meet the user’s needs and business objectives. It also provides development a chance to visually understand how a product could potentially function.

Validate

In this stage, I collect feedback from users and stakeholders and evaluate the success of the design. This involves analysing the data and making improvements to the design based on user feedback. The goal of this stage is to validate any business or design hypotheses regarding user expectations and ensuring the product meets the needs before launching a product to market.
